Upon researching higher education,
I learned that the University of Miami is listed among the top schools
for music composition. Among my most significant experiences have
been serving as president of the UM student chapter of the Society
of Composers, Inc. (SCI) and hosting SCI’s national student
conference. In my opinion, the superior quality of the faculty and
the learning environment that has been established at UM has helped
me find my voice.

I came to the University of Miami for the composition program. I had checked reference books that rate colleges and UM was rated very highly, especially the department in which I was interested. I’ve had a wonderful experience here. I’m leaving with so much more knowledge than I came here with. I feel I’ve grown a lot, musically and otherwise.

One of the biggest surprises I had coming to Miami is how often I’ve been able to perform. I’ve performed well over a dozen concerts a semester, in all
kinds of music.
I also enjoy being in the UM Symphony Orchestra. We
have a wonderful conductor
who is passionate about
getting students involved in
the music. Some of the most memorable music experiences in my life have been at UM.

It has been my goal to study in the United States
since I was young. In my country, you specialize in one thing, but
here, you are exposed to so many new things. For example, my teacher
has introduced me to 20th century contemporary music,
and there are also classes in archeology, languages, and many other
things that can help you to become a better musician. In addition,
there are lots of opportunities for you to perform, both on and
off campus.

Coming from Thailand, I feel right at home because of the comfortable atmosphere between the faculty and the students. The faculty are very friendly and cooperative. I can talk to them any time I want and they always welcome me.
UM has given me the opportunity to broaden my horizons. Music is the universal language that everyone shares in this multicultural environment.

The Music Business program has
surpassed all of my expectations. It’s exciting to be studying
from the guy who actually created the first program of its kind in
the nation. A key thing he has taught us is the importance of making
and maintaining industry connections; that’s one reason why
90 percent of students find jobs as soon as they graduate. I always
knew I wanted to work with people and with music. Here,
I get to do both.

My first impression of the University of Miami campus was, “Wow, this is beautiful!” The academic possibilities are endless, with classes for all interests. It was exciting to learn that my violin professor, Glenn Basham,
is able to teach me both classical and alternative musical styles.
My music education classes are incredible; I know I am getting a meaningful degree. My experience at UM has been absolutely amazing!”

I chose the University of Miami School of Music for its incredible reputation and the education I am receiving is definitely fulfilling my expectations. I did not expect to be involved in many extracurricular activities until later in my college career, but UM has offered me so many great opportunities already. The activities and organizations I have been involved in, and the leadership roles I have taken on, have really enhanced my college experience.

I chose the Music Engineering Technology program
because it
offers a number of opportunities enriched within a diverse
campus atmosphere. For example, you can obtain internships
at recording studios and software companies, assist engineers
during live performances, and much more. I feel confident that
along with my hands-on experience and knowledge from the
classroom, I will have no problem getting a job.

The best thing about the Music Engineering
program is the people. The teachers here are so knowledgeable and
enthusiastic, and the students are excited about learning. This program
is one of the best programs of its kind in the country. I know I made
the right choice in coming here. Since the program is so well respected
in the industry, I know my UM education will truly benefit me when
I graduate.

Two of the things I like best about this Musical Theatre program are the chance to learn from so many active performers and the opportunity to showcase our talent to casting agents and other professionals in the business. Through master classes and critiques of our performances, guest artists teach us how to live up to high professional standards, and the faculty provide the perfect balance of support and professional training.

The University of Miami is consistently ranked as one of the top three jazz schools in the country, and one of only a few to offer a D.M.A. in Jazz Performance. The great thing about the jazz faculty is they are fluent in all aspects of jazz – theory, composition, performance, and education – and have all been active performers, so they know what it takes to be successful. The quality of the faculty here is beyond excellent.

of the major reasons I chose the University of Miami is that I’d
heard good things about the program from many different sources. Here,
students are not just a number. The faculty are committed to furthering
your education based on your individual needs. Being in Miami, the
experiences that you receive here, musically, are very diverse. The
exposure to authentic Latin music, because of our location, is something
that would be harder to find somewhere else.

I was attracted to the University of Miami mainly because of its diversity and wide range of study opportunities. You can choose from a tremendous variety in majors, programs and specialties. The University also has one of the best campuses I’ve ever seen. It’s amazing how many students are at UM from around the world. When you’re here, you’re not just learning about music; you’re also learning about other countries and cultures.

I was attracted to the University of Miami because of its large music program with so many offerings. I felt I would be at home here, whether I decided on a major in musical theatre, vocal performance or music business.
I also was attracted to the beautiful Coral Gables campus. Miami and the beaches are very close, but I enjoy being on an enclosed university campus.

During my years at UM, I have found professors who embrace compositions from Bach to Varése and who create music for everything from video games to big bands. A number of institutions boast cultural diversity, but at UM, the music to which you’re exposed can be as diverse as the culture.
